Autumn weddings hold a special kind of magic. With vibrant colours like oranges, reds, and yellows painting the landscape, a crispness in the air, and the chance to create the ultimate cosy atmosphere, it’s no wonder couples are drawn to this beautiful season.

As a wedding photographer in Bristol, I’ve had the pleasure of capturing the magic of autumn in some breathtaking locations, including a styled shoot at Westonbirt Arboretum and a real wedding at The Pilgrims Rest and Stourhead Garden.

Today, I’m sharing some autumn wedding ideas from vibrant colours to stunning venues to help you plan your dream wedding!

      Autumn Wedding Colours

When it comes to autumn wedding ideas, the colour palette really sets the tone.

Think rich oranges, deep reds, and golden yellows that reflect the changing leaves. These colours not only bring warmth to your wedding day but also create an inviting, romantic atmosphere.

Think of the vibrant hues of the surrounding trees during this season, which provide the perfect backdrop for portraits, and the golden light filtering through the branches will add a magical touch.

As a wedding photographer, I love working with these rich colours in the florals. For example, with bold red dahlias and burnt orange roses paired with earthy greenery to tie everything together!

During this season, the autumn shades work beautifully with the certain wedding venue’s natural charm — so choose wisely!

For example, Stourhead’s stunning landscape, with its reflective lake and iconic stone bridge, perfectly highlights the beauty of autumn.

      Autumn Wedding Decor

Autumn is all about creating a sense of warmth and intimacy, and your decor is the key to achieving this.

For a cosy atmosphere, think of these autumn wedding ideas — glowing candlelight, pumpkins, seasonal foliage, and rustic details.

At the woodland elopement styled shoot, it felt rich, romantic, and connected to the natural surroundings, with a warm palette of burnt oranges, golden tones, and earthy greens. The decor is beautifully understated, allowing the setting to do most of the work, from the fallen leaves and textured ferns to the soft, glowing light create a naturally layered backdrop without the need for heavy styling.

The brides bouquet adds a lovely decorative touch, full of seasonal blooms that showcase the colours of the woodland, while the overall feel remains organic and effortless. It’s the kind of styling that proves you don’t need much when the environment itself is this atmospheric!

Meanwhile, at The Pilgrims Rest, Sunny and Tom’s wedding looked effortlessly stylish, letting the natural surroundings take centre stage. Rows of simple wooden chairs are set on the grass, keeping the ceremony space clean and understated, while the stone pavilion adds a timeless, architectural backdrop without the need for heavy styling!

A brilliant autumn wedding idea are floral arrangements that are kept soft and seasonal, with warm-toned blooms that tie in beautifully with the surrounding trees.

Overall, it’s a perfect example of how minimal, well-chosen decor paired with a striking outdoor setting can create a romantic and atmospheric autumn wedding without feeling overdone.

      Venue Inspiration for Autumn Weddings

      Westonbirt Arboretum

For nature lovers, Westonbirt Arboretum is a dream venue for your autumn wedding ideas. This enchanting location is home to a world-class collection of trees, offering a kaleidoscope of colours during the autumn months.

The styled shoot I worked on here was truly magical, with the golden leaves providing a naturally stunning backdrop that required very little extra decoration. There’s something incredibly romantic about exchanging vows beneath a canopy of vibrant trees while the soft crunch of fallen leaves adds to the sensory experience.

      The Pilgrims Rest

In the heart of East Sussex, The Pilgrims Rest is full of charm and character, making it an ideal spot for an intimate autumn wedding.

This Grade II* listed building dates back to the 14th century, and its historic features, like timbered beams and inglenook fireplaces, offer a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Sunny and Tom’s wedding here was effortlessly cosy, and the venue’s rustic charm provided the perfect setting for their relaxed yet stylish day!

      Stourhead Garden

If you’re looking for a venue with jaw-dropping natural beauty, Stourhead Garden is a must-consider option.

This National Trust property is famed for its landscape gardens, complete with classical temples, grottos, and relaxing lakeside views.

For Sunny and Tom’s ceremony, the sunlight streaming through the autumn trees created an almost cinematic quality to their photographs.

The wide open spaces of the gardens also allowed guests to wander and soak up the seasonal beauty, making it a truly memorable setting.
